18 Sweet and Savory Apple Recipes! Plus new: Apple Crumb Cakes with Cardamom and Ginger

Apple season is here – and these cakes are divine!
Enjoy for dessert, a snack or for the Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah

Recipe: Amazing Apple Crumb Cakes with Cardamom and Ginger

I really do love anything apple!
This season there are many varieties to choose from, and I’m always recommending visiting a local farmers’ market or an apple farm and try a variety new to you.

Varieties I love include Macoun (my favorite eating apple), Honeycrisp, Ginger Gold, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Jonagold, McIntosh, Rome and Zestar (in today’s recipe.)

These crumb cakes are absolutely delicious!
A quick batter with sliced apples on top and loaded with a crumb topping.
I’m obsessed with the ground Cardamom in the cakes and minced Crysltalized Ginger in the topping. The flavor of cardamom is intoxicating… just use a little and will perfume the cakes perfectly.
Cardamom has a zesty citrus flavor that is sweet and spicy.
Here, ground Cardamom uses its seeds, while whole green cardamom pods, native to India are used in many savory dishes.

Ginger pairs very well with apples, use just enough to blossom its flavor as not to overwhelm.

Here I found “Zestar” apples which have a nice sweet essence and are medium-firm.
Flavor-notes: tastes sweet and tangy, with accents of brown sugar, and is known for its unique flavor.

I made these Crumb Cakes in jumbo muffin tins – each has a one cup capacity. I like the idea of having an individual cake, with crispy edges.
Cut them in half when serving and dust with confectioner’s sugar if you like.

I’m obsessed with Coconut Whipped Cream!!
I rarely have heavy cream in the fridge… but I always have a can of coconut milk! To make – refrigerate the can overnight – take out 4 tablespoons of the thick coconut cream (will seperate from the coconut water) whisk with confectioner’s sugar and some natural vanilla. So easy!! (see recipe.)

Recipe make 5, 4 inch tall cakes ~ serves 10

Just out of the oven… oh that heavenly smell!
