Three Sweet Potato Side Dish Recipes for Thanksgiving!

Natural Candied Yams with Apple Cider Cinnamon Glaze

A beautifully sticky glaze that’s not too sweet.
The trick: reduce Fresh Apple Cider!

A delicious thick Apple Cider Cinnamon Glaze – the flavor bakes into the sweet potatoes

Cook yams, peel, slice and layer in a casserole with an Apple Cider Cinnamon Glaze. Broil until lightly blackened around the edges.
Not too sweet… THE TRICK: reduce fresh apple cider.

To the reduced Apple Cider add honey, cinnamon sticks, cloves and butter – a glaze is born.

Hasselback Sweet Potatoes with Aged Gouda – Maple Syrup Glaze

Ingredients for the fanned potatoes
Can make a few days ahead – phew!
Slice the peeled potatoes in 1/4” intervals, not quite through the bottom.

These “fanned” sweet potatoes simply bake in the oven with a syrupy, maple glaze. Tuck garlic in the crevices and sprinkle with fresh rosemary. I love adding a touch of grated, aged gouda cheese on top – your Thanksgiving company will scream ”YUM!”

Not your typical mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows – aren’t we ready for an update? This one looks fancy – but is actually easy to pull together. A perfect side dish alongside the holiday turkey, gravy, vegetables and cranberry sauce – the staples of a Thanksgiving feast.

Roasted potato flavor teams with a smack of maple goodness, mellow garlic, piney rosemary and nutty melted cheese. Hasselback Potatoes are the Swedish version of baked potatoes. These baked sweet potato “fans” were popularized as the namesake dish of the restaurant at the Hasselbacken Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden.

Incredible Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Garlic

Break out a pretty platter and load on these tasty sweet potato fries
Peel and cut sweet potatoes into 1/2″ wide batonettes, toss on your baking pan with a little oil, and a mix of savory seasonings.
Not loaded with fat – these are crispy and seasoned well!
Add the Garlic-Butter Topping and Parsley just before you serve them

These are a weekly staple in my house.

Looking for a quick and tasty Thanksgiving side dish? Here it is!
Peel and cut sweet potatoes into 1/2″ wide batonettes, toss on your baking pan with a little oil, and a mix of savory seasonings.

Mix all together and roast in the oven at 400 degrees until golden – turn over once until cooked through and crispy.

Just before serving coat with the Garlic-Topping and scatter with lots of chopped parsley. Delish & lightened-up with minimal fat and intense flavors.

What really is the difference between Sweet Potatoes and Yams?
In most US grocery stores, yams and sweet potatoes are the same thing.
True yams are not normally found in grocery stores here in the US. If you want to buy them, you must go to an international market.

Sweet potatoes come in two varieties and this where the confusion with yams comes in. Some are white with a thin yellow skin and the interior – –
the “reddish” sweet potatoes are often labeled as yams.

Yams are dryer and starchier than sweet potatoes. They are usually boiled and mashed.

So – don’t sweet it – sweet potatoes, which are widely available are all good in these three recipes!

(I would rather not eat commercial corn syrup (GMO) – make your own!)
