Just the most flavorful croutons! Tons of delicious zesty flavors.
Equipment
- 1 12" cast iron skillet
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, I use organic
- 1 teaspoon finely grated garlic
- 1 tablespoon Grainy Mustard, see my recipe below!
- 6 grates freshly ground pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 cups bread cubes, about 3/4″ sourdough or peasant bread
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375. Heat the butter in a skillet over low heat, I use a cast iron one. Add next 4 ingredients, stir for 30 seconds over LOW heat just to blend the flavors. Add the bread cubes and toss very well with a rubber spatula, coating each piece.
- Place ovenproof skillet in the oven and toast the bread cubes until golden around the edges – about 15 minutes.OR , add the seasoned croutons to a rimmed baking sheet and bake. Remember to use a oven mitt removing the pan! Leave in 2 minutes less if you like your croutons a little chewy on the insides.
- When cool, store the croutons in an airtight glass container and use within 2 weeks.
- These are delicious added to so many dishes! Try my Radicchio Salad with Grainy Mustard Vinaigrette. Crumble the crispy croutons on top as well.
Notes
You can cut bread crusts off.. or leave them on.
