Servings: 8 1/4 cup servings
- 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter I use organic
- 1 teaspoon finely grated garlic
- 1 tablespoon Grainy Mustard see my recipe below!
- 6 grates freshly ground pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 cups bread cubes about 3/4" sourdough or peasant bread
Preheat oven to 375. Heat the butter in a skillet over low heat, I use a cast iron one. Add next 4 ingredients, stir for 30 seconds over LOW heat just to blend the flavors. Add the bread cubes and toss very well with a rubber spatula, coating each piece.
Place ovenproof skillet in the oven and toast the bread cubes until golden around the edges - about 15 minutes.OR , add the seasoned croutons to a rimmed baking sheet and bake. Remember to use a oven mitt removing the pan! Leave in 2 minutes less if you like your croutons a little chewy on the insides. When cool, store the croutons in an airtight glass container and use within 2 weeks.
These are delicious added to so many dishes! Try my Radicchio Salad with Grainy Mustard Vinaigrette. Crumble the crispy croutons on top as well.
